Cuckney III v Ollerton (A) 12/09/2009
September 13, 2009 – 9:08 amAnother magical day from the thirds, on a day when the pressure was really on.
This was a game we had to win to ensure promotion to division 6, and the tension could be seen on all the supporters faces, though the young bucks in the team seemed to take it all in their stride (as usual)
Les strode out to the middle with their captain for the vital toss. We had to win & make them bat, and this is where the start of the perfect began, as the coin came down in our favour & away we went.
The bowling was tight from the beginning, as it needed to be with their opener having scored over 100 the week before, and who won the first encounter between the teams for Ollerton.
Mark bagged a couple of early wickets, and it became clear we had to try & work our way through the new batsmen, as their opener was in no mood to get out.
Runs were slow to come, and then Brad, making a welcome return to the side, showed how he has progressed this year, as he rattled out 5 of their batsmen for only 5 runs in a 6 over spell.
This left the tail to try and stay with Ollertons no.1, but they weren’t up to the task, and we eventually bowled them out for 74, with 14 overs to spare.
During the whole innings the team all gave 100%, and the fielding was fantastic, with everyone buzzing around the field.
Cuckney now had 60 overs to get the 75 runs to win the game. Could the batting go as well as the bowling. Dan was sent out to do his customary opening role with Aaron, but this was a difficult wicket to get in on & both had to play carefully, as we didn’t want to give them a foothold into our batting lineup, though with the likes of Taylor & Luke batting at 7 or 8, you could argue we batted right down to 10 or 11.
Dan looked solid from the start & the runs started to come, with a couple of fine 4′s and we were progressing at about 3 an over, more than enough to reach our goal in quick time, even the loss of Aaron wasn’t going to spoil the day, and with Mark coming in next the score ticked along nicely.
No more batsmen were required & the final run came with only 20 odd overs bowled, and the perfect day had been achieved, and the fans could now relax and enjoy the refreshments that victory brought (you know what I mean Lee!!!)
The team had yet again proved that when the pressure is on, they rise to the occasion & we have now been promoted for the second year in a row, so look out Division 6, here we come.
Man of the match: Dans 31 not out put him in contention, but the match winning performance came from Brad, who ousted their middle order to put us on track for this magnificent victory.Well done “Twiggy”

I want to say a massive thanks for all the players who played for me this year especially Rich Raford for stepping in for me when I was working ( and Cally, Aaron and the mighty ‘Twiglet’ Brad). This season has been a very good one with all players proving that this club have a brilliant future especially when the age ranges from 12, 14, 15 ,17 and finally a handsome 42!!!!!!!. Many thanks for Cliff for scoring, umpiring and ringing the team up after selection (keep on the road to recovery). I was dissapointed that some players could make the last game especially Joseph but they will all get a mention when we have a presentation night.
John thanks for the write ups and a big thanks to Lee and Jenny for presenting the teas for us at half time… A big thanks for all the support …….. and boy what a last game….. we are Division 7 Champions!!!!!!
