Bridon v Cuckney

Bassetlaw Division 1 1st September 2007

At Ordsall: CUCKNEY (18) 361 for 4 (Steve Bentley 112, Will Butler 139 n.o., Richard Stroh 62) drew with BRIDON (5) 167 for 9 (Will Lee 55, Gareth Jones 35, Richard Stroh 4 for 26)

Cuckney lost another toss and were asked to bat on a wicket that looked seriously good on a warm day. With a few problems to deal with the Bears had a mixed side out and with having being crowned Champs already the skipper decided to give some guys down the order a chance to get in early.

Hind and Bentley both got their chance they have been waiting for all season and did very well to say they have had limited chances all year. They put on a good 85 run opening partnership before Hind was caught behind for a well played 39. The skipper joined Bents at 3 and both enjoyed fine batting conditions and played very well together totally dominating the Bridon attach in all departments. Before long Steve Bentley in his first year at the club recorded his first century for the club in fine style. He played well all day and was finally out for 112, in what was a well paced innings. Stroh then joined Butler and looked in awesome form from ball one. At the other end Butler was striking the ball to all parts and soon reached his 2nd hundred in 2 weeks. Stroh scored a 40 ball 62 before holding out. Ullyott then joined Butler for the last two overs before he was run out for 3 , Butler was joined by Musgrave for 2 balls and Cuckney finished on 361 for 4 overs up . Butler a very well played 139 no.

The Champs then took to the field and soon had Bridon on 20 for 4 with Stroh bowling very quick on what was a belting surface! At the other end the bowlers struggled really but still bowled ok. Bridon struggled along all afternoon and finally came to 167 for 9 overs up . The Cuckney bowlers tried hard and as the Bears skippers used 8 bowlers everyone had a go at the Bridon Batters. Well done to Brad Wright for taking his first Div 1 wicket at 15 ! Adwick bowled well and so did his understudy Wilson.

Musgrave bowled well in his second spell taking two quick wickets and looked like wrapping it up but didn't.Ullyott tried hard with no luck and Stroh finished on figures 4 for 15 after 7 overs, but all in all it was a performance too strong for the Bridon lads to cope with. Well done to the bears 18pts to Bridons 3pts.
