Cuckney v Bridon

Bassetlaw Division 1 9th June 2007

CUCKNEY (16) 270 for 5 (Will Butler 43, Richard Stroh 71, Steve Bentley 92) drew with BRIDON (8) 206 for 5 (Will Butler 3 for 40)

Cuckney won the toss! The first toss we have won all season and it was a great day to have a bat on what looked a typically hard and dry Cuckney surface. Having said all that we found ourselves in trouble at 14 for 2 after Brown ran himself out for 6 and Jogia was caught behind for 6. Butler and Stroh then put on a 70 run parnership before Butler was caught down the legside for 43. Stroh again batting through the innings was joined by Bentley who hasnt had much opportunity in the last few weeks but you wouldent have said so as he played the innings of the season for me and rocketed to a 79 ball 92 before holding out on the boundary. His innings was fluent and oozing ability and that has set him up for the season now, Bentley has arrived! Stroh was out just before that for another wonderful 71 and its only a matter of time before the big man turns one of these 70's and 80's into a big score. Randall , Bostock and Ullyott all contributed towards the end by scoring at a run a ball and the innings closed on 270 for 6 which looked a long way off at 14 for 2 but the boys dug deep and got themslves a decent score after a bad start.

Cuckney then knew they had a tough job ahead on a pitch that offered little for the bowlers. After a good start from Stroh who had another victim put down, Cuckney looked out of sorts with the ball which was worrying as Bridon got off to a flyer with both opening batsmen reaching their 50 ties, the parnership however ended when Adwick struck with a vital wicket of Wells for 52. At this point Cuckney looked relieved to get the vital wicket which made the job alot easier and for the first time this season the Cuckney attack failed to bowl tight and diciplined and Bridon for a moment looked like getting away. The skipper brought himself and Adwick into the attack and they bowled with control and purpose. The situation required wickets and these came from Butler 3 for 40 in 12 overs and Adwick 2 for 27 in 6 overs. Stroh also bowled well with no luck as Cuckney only managed to get Bridon 207 for 5 as they ran out of overs. On a day that Cuckney learnt alot about themselves we ended up with 16 valuable points. And Bridon 8 points. Happy B-day to Raggs, he was 27 on Saturday. Good job done boys.
