Cuckney v Farnsfield
Bassetlaw Division 1 25th August 2007
At Langwith Road: CUCKNEY (4) 242 for 6 (Richard Stroh 105, Steve Bentley 52) lost to FARNSFIELD (18) 243 for 2 (Paul Franks 135 n.o., Sam Wood 41, Rashid Riaz 31) by eight wickets.
As the bank holiday weekend had arrived with Cuckney potensially being able to seal the title if results went our way and we won our games it was an exciting prospect. The ground was again in immaculate condition and the wicket again looked like the M1 it was a surprise when Farnsfield won the toss and put the Bears in to bat.
Cuckney got off to a slow but steady start before loosing Brown with the score on 26 in the 9th over. On a day when scoring looked easy the Farnsfield attack looked up for it and gave us very few boundary balls. Stroh again was going about his business quietly from one end as he has done all season before loosing Jogia for a well played 20, Next in was the skipper who was soon out for 9. Bentley then joined Stroh who put on an important and well played 104 parnership before Bents was stumped for 52. With 6 overs to go and our score looking on the low side in these good batting conditions Tom Ullyott tried to pick up the tempo. Stroh was then unfortanatley run out for a very well played 105 , his second ton of the season. Ullyott 13, Randall 16 no, and later Hind 4no tried to up the rate when Cuckney finished on 242 for 6 when the overs ran out.
Was this going to be enough on a day when batting looked easy.
Cuckney started well in the field and as results have proven this year no matter what the situation we never give up . Farnsfield however or should i say Franks had other ideas as he batted all the way through the innings for a brilliant 135 no , Farnsfield went passed the Cuckney score with 3 overs to go in what was a brilliant batting display and made the Bears toil all day for not much reward, Randall 1 for 74 off 13 , Tom Ullyott 1 for 46 in 10 , The only 2 wicket takers. It was one of those days you had to admire a pro in full flow and Franks is certainly a match winner on his day.
Cuckney Bears 4 pts , Farnsfield 20 pts
