Worksop v Cuckney

Bassetlaw Division 1 26th May 2007

Cuckney 258-9 (Daniel Brown 78, Will Butler 63, Richard Stroh 55) drew with Worksop 137-7 (Richard Stroh 3 for 40) Cuckney 17 Worksop 6

After a bad week of weather we managed to get a game. After losing another toss Cuckney were inserted on a green looking track which looked a bit scary at first but actually played really well. After loosing Jogia the 2nd ball of the innings young Brown and Butler consolidated and batted really well together before Butler was unfortunately run out for 63 at the non strikers end with a deflection off the bowlers hand. Stroh and Brown then took the innings forward before Stroh was Bowled for a impressive run a ball 55. After loosing the 3rd wicket with 206 on the board with 12 overs to go Cuckney were looking for a huge score but if it wasn't for Browns solid 78 the innings might have gone wrong. Randall, Bentley, T .Ullyott , Hind all fell cheaply trying to pick up the scoring rate with very unselfish innings which is a good sign for the cause! Adwick finishing with 8 not out has to get a mention for seeing it through at the end.

On a strange looking track we never knew what score was going to be enough so we never thought of a declaration but our score proved to be way too many as Worksop never threatened our score. After a good opening partnership stand of 50 ish, wickets fell slowly with Worksop batting out after just losing 2 wickets and this made it really hard to bowl them out. After good performances from Stroh 3 for 40 , Randall 2 for 44 , Ullyott 1 for 8 and Adwick 1 for 5 with the ball we only managed to get Worksop 138 for 7 after there 50 overs. A very negative batting display from the home side, it had to be said, but in a way they showed courage to hang in there for a couple of points.

All in all a good but frustrating day for us as we spilt a few good chances in the field, Cuckney 17 points Worksop 6 points.
