Cuckney v Ransome & Marles
Bassetlaw Division 1 27th August 2007
At Langwith Road: CUCKNEY (16) 433 for 2 (Kunil Jogea 85, Richard Stroh 209 n.o., Will Butler 115) drew with RANSOME & MARLES (6) 227 for 5 (Henno Jordaan 163 n.o.).
Record Day!
Cuckney again lost the toss and were again inserted. The ground and pitch was looking awesome on a warm day, perfect batting conditions. Cuckney requiring the majority of the points to be Champions of Bassetlaw Div 1 for the first time. But we didn't know this at the time! We knew we had to bounce back from our defeat to Farnsfield two days prior.
Stroh and Jogia opened up and got off to a flyer with the ball travelling to all parts of the ground! The wicket was very good and the attack was mild for a day when the Bears needed to stand up and be counted! The opening stand of 162 was exactly what was required and to help the matter it came off 25 overs. Jogia was first to go for a brilliant 85 off just 72 balls(13 x 4's) ,the wristy opening bat proved his worth and has a big role to play in the Premier league next year. In came the skipper Butler who had an easy job after the start his openers gave him rotating strike with Stroh as these players have battered together on many occasions before this and if you had seen them before you would know what was coming. Butler and Stroh struck the ball to all parts in a massive 239 run partnership. The Viper and the Giraffe had certainly unleashed the African fury before the viper (Butler) was dismissed for 115 off just 66 balls. (14 x 4's and 4 x 6's ) The Giraffe has been in the form of his life this season and this day was in particular a special one for him as had passed a 1000 runs for the season during his record breaking 209 not out off 165 balls ( 33 x 4's and 1x 6) If there was one player who deserves the credit for working hard it is Stroh as his hard work has been more than worth it! A faultless knock of high class. Randall came in at the end and got a quick 16 off 6 balls to finish off the 433 for 2 off 50 overs .This is the highest team total by any team in the history of the league (433 for 2) and also the highest individual score by a player in Div 1 (209 no)
Cuckney could now go out and enjoy the day and attack knowing they had more than enough runs on the board! As Bentley and Musgrave opened the bowling it was all out attack from the Bears . Bentley hit some good areas and as he has been struggling all season with a knee injury he hasn't bowled much at all. But bowled well with no luck and finished 5 overs 0 for 19. Musgrave too bowled well and struck in his 6th over by a well taken catch behind from Hind, his figures were 6 overs 1 for 35.
Stroh toiled in the sun with no luck as the Ransome & Marles batsmen found batting very easy but were never close to the massive run rate. Ullyott and Randall bowled well in tandem again with figures Ullyott 2 for 28 off 11 overs and Randall 2 for 63 off 13 . Good solid batting by the Ransome pro Jordan who finished with 163 not out saved the day for the visiting team as he played well. Ransome and Marles finishing on 227 for 5 off their 50 overs.
A day that belonged to a team of Bears who have worked very hard this season. When we had left the field we found out results had gone our way and we were officially Champions of Div 1 !!! As there are two games left im sure the rest of the season will be alot of fun.
Well done to all my players and thanks for the support through the year its been most enjoyable!
