Cuckney v Kiveton Park
Bassetlaw Division 1 28th July 2007
At Langwith Road: CUCKNEY (17) 254 for 2 (Kunil Jogea 39, Richard Stroh 127 n.o., Will Butler 44, Steve Bentley 32 n.o.) drew with KIVETON PARK (3) 147 for 7 (Rob Coxon 44, Tom Neeley 31 n.o. Andy Stevenson 3 for 29)
On a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon Kiveton arrived with there tails up as top of the table leaders. They had beaten us two weeks earlier and all the Cuckney boys knew this would be a vital encounter which would not only decide who would go top of the tree, but also who would have the all important momentum going forward to the end of the season!!
In all the boys minds it was pay back time!!
What looked like a very good Cuckney wicket once again (prepared by Tom Cruise) it was quiet a suprise when the visitors won the toss and elected to field!! (You always bat first at Cuckney)
Cuckney got off to a good start with Jogia and Stroh putting on a first wicket stand of 95 before Jogia was caught trying to play the infamous "SWAN" off his legs for 39. Skipper Butler arrived at the crease and with much needed time needed at the crease took awhile to get going. But once he did he timed it sweetly and played a very swift knock to take him to 44 and the much needed momentum to take us to a big score. (158/ 2)
Bentley the stroker not the poker arrived and played some glorious shots, with some big clean hits taking him to 32 not out and him and Stroh ended off the innings that took the total to 254/ 2.
Stroh recorded his first century for the Bears and ended unbeaten on 127.
WELL BATTED BOYS!!
It was always going to be difficult batting second chasing 254. With the wicket getting lower and slower and with the spin twins Rags and T-Bags licking their lips and Monty lurking in the wings it was not going to be easy.
But the seamers took the new nacker and in the first 4 overs Slap- Head Stephenson and Butler struggled to find the right line and length and the kiveton boys got off to a flyer with 30 on the board after 5 overs.
But it never lasted long because when Butler hit the strappes and started swinging it, the Kivo boys struggled. It took a great catch from "Rubber Lips Hind- Monkey Boy" to dismiss Hampshire off the bowling of Butler.
Stevo soon realised that you cant bowl full tosses and half volleys and when he found some rhythm the Kiveton boys started disappearing like when Raggsy gets stuck into a MacDonald's cheese burger...
Butler and Stevo took the first 5 wickets with Kiveton only on 48. Mushy then popped into the attack and bowled very good areas with no luck. But it was the spin twins that tied it down and took it away from Kivo, Rags bowled brilliantly ending on 1 for 35 off 12 and T-Bags bowled brilliantly as well finishing with 1 for 26 off 9.
Cuckney finished the day with 17 points and Kiveton only managed to scrap 3 so once again a fantastic effort from all the boys. Kiveton were lucky that the 50 overs were up cause they did not have to contend with Cowboy Cliff and Danny B who very dangerous customers!!
Well done Bears and make sure we keep doing what we do best Winning!!!
Moral of the story " Always bat first at Cuckney"
