New Signing at Cuckney Cricket Club
Cuckney’s new signings 2012 season.
Bears snatch Root
Billy Root, Rooty, is a 19 year old attacking left handed opening batsmen with the ability to bowl right arm medium.
For several years he has been a main stay in the first team of Sheffield Collegiate in the Yorkshire Premier League, near to where he was born. He has appeared in the youth, academy and 2XI Yorkshire set up throughout his short career. He also played for Nottinghamshire in a second team match in the middle of last season. From there he joined up with Worcestershire and was highly impressive in his short time with them. For Worcestershire he scored a century against Northamptonshire having made 42 against them in the one day competition. He went onto score 40 and 51 against Glamorgan in a following second team fixture.
Root was schooled at Worksop College where he was coached by Ian 'Big dog' Parkin as were many other current and past Cuckney CC players, notably William 'Jacked Up' Ullyott (not the author of this piece) and Daniel 'small balls' Brown. Tom 't bag, mood swing' Ullyott captained the young Root at Worksop in many very successful seasons. Most notably for Root was his final season as a Worksop student where he scored over 1200 runs, with an impressive 4 hundreds, around 10 times as many as another former Worksop and current Cuckney player, Mr Majeed 'space cadet' Verjee.
He has also recently signed for the MCC young cricketers based at Lords for the coming season. Currently Root is applying his trade in Perth, Australia, playing for the Toombul District, where he is very much enjoying his cricket.
Rooty has the potential to be a huge weapon in the Cuckney CCs 1st XI armoury, with the ability to score a significant amount of runs in very good time.
